“Great” Moravia as an Example of the Plurality of Pasts in Modern Slovak Research.

Abstract: The study deals with Great Moravian history as an example of the plurality of pasts in modern Slovak historical scholarship. The author examines how Great Moravia was interpreted in different periods of the 20th and 21st centuries, from the interwar period through Catholic political discourse, Marxist historiography during the communist regime, to post-1989 nationalist and academic interpretations. The study highlights the shift from early feudal state models to nationalized narratives and shows how Great Moravia served as a symbol for political legitimation and identity construction.
