Slovenská historiografia po roku 1989 v medzinárodnom
kontexte: teoreticko-metodologické aspekty Historický časopis, 2025, 73, 1, pp. 3-22, Bratislava. Abstract: The article follows the author’s analysis of post-communist historiography after ten years, which he published under the title Paradoxes and dilemmas of post-communist historiography. While in the first decade socio-political aspects were dominant in historical research, after thirty years theoreticalmethodological aspects are more topical. After the political change in 1989, the phenomenon of freedom of research had primarily a socio-political dimension. Over time, however, it became clear that freedom of research is not the same as civil right of free speech, because it is limited on the one hand by the methodology of scientific work and on the other hand by national and European grant schemes. Slovak historiography suffers from insufficient development of the history of Slovak historiography. In the first years after the socio-political change in 1989, emphasis was placed on freedom from the so-called Marxist-Leninist ideology imposed by political power.
